Welcome to Wai Reka Nature’s Nectar Comb Honey and its founders, Roy and Claudine Smeath. Roy and Claudine are locals; born and bred in the beautiful Bay of Islands in the wild Far North of New Zealand.
Our honey bee journey started in 2014, with a modest 25 nucs sited in our back yard. This was a great learning point as virgin beekeepers and saw Roy learning bee husbandry by networking with local beekeepers, reading ‘How To’ beekeeping books and investing hundreds of hours into fantastic YouTube videos.
Slowly our 25 nucs turned into 75 hives, which after 12 months saw us with 125 fully fledged hives. Two years in and we are selling hives/nucs to both new and established beekeepers and four years in we took up the challenge of producing our unique box section comb honey. Roy has a unique ability to work in harmony with nature and harness the essence of the bees to create such a delectable product.
Our comb honey is made from a labour of love, education and portrays all the many wonderful flavours of the Bay of Islands and surrounding areas of Northland, NZ. These flavours include clover, floral, citrus, bush and Manuka blends. Our comb honey is 100% natural, with no preservatives and is literally packed straight from the hive on site and is ready to be served at your breakfast table.
